Tips on Handling Groceries during Coronavirus Outbreak

Whether you are using a delivery service or getting the groceries yourself, it’s essential to disinfect them before you get them inside your home during the coronavirus outbreak. Follow these simple tips:

  • Any grocery item that is acceptable to keep in your car or garage for over three days, such as – Toilet papers, Onions, Potatoes, Cleaning Supplies, and Lotions, etc., avoid bringing them inside the house. Coronavirus should no longer remain on those surfaces after 72 hours.
  • The items that make it inside the house, such as produce, fruits, frozen goods, sauces, should be kept in a designated area and dealt with in the following manner. Thoroughly wash your fruits and vegetables with hot water; you can also keep them in a solution of warm water + vinegar+ salt to disinfect them. For any bottled and packaged goods, make sure you keep them on a clean surface and give them a good wipe down with a disinfecting wipe.
  • Disinfect the surface where groceries were with Lysol or Clorox wipes.
  • Discard all remaining plastic bags, and then wash your hands carefully again with hot water and hand soap for 20 seconds.
