Memorial Day Weekend will be here in what feels like few minutes. It’s a great time to reconnect with family and friends while taking in the bright Texas sun and warm weather. It’s also an ideal time to make your refrigerator ‘summer – friendly’. Consider stocking these six chilled beverages in the fridge if you are welcoming guests this weekend:

Iced Tea

Iced Tea – perfect summer beverage

Iced Tea: We call it a magical thirst-quenching beverage. Kids and adults can’t seem to get enough of it. If you are hosting family or have a big gathering a pitcher of iced tea can never go wrong. The best part is it can be stored for a few days.

Fresh Juice: If you are someone on a quest to eat healthily, we highly recommend stocking fresh juice in your refrigerator. Loaded with vitamins, minerals, and fiber, juice has rightly enjoyed the attention that it does. If you are not a fruit person, there are plenty of vegetable juices available. H-E-B has a great section of freshly squeezed juices. Stock up.

Cider: Are you on board with the cider revolution that has garnered massive popularity in the recent times? Cider is loaded with antioxidants like wine. – The antioxidants can help you combat seasonal diseases and repair cellular damage. Not everyone enjoys the bittersweet taste of cider, but it can be a great inclusion in your summer beverage list.

Beer: An adult beverage, everyone enjoys a good chilled beer. Grocery aisles are filled with different styles and varieties nowadays, we are sure you will find something that you like and your guests would enjoy.

Wine: Summer screams for a good wine to be enjoyed by the pool-side. If you share our passion for wine, we bet you would agree they should be in every household in every season. We do think they make an exceptionally good addition to dinner meals during summer. What do you think?

Gin and Tonic: All hail gin, it’s the ultimate summer beverage. A summer favorite, this drink is simple to make with amazing health benefits, count on it to reduce bloating and combat joint pain. Make sure you have enough supply if you have friends over.

Mother's Day

Mother’s Day

  • Gift a day for herself: Women are the prime takers in the family, they never take a day off. Holidays and vacations usually mean more work for mom’s. Give her a day off where she can do whatever she wants to do. Watch her favorite series on television, spend a day in the spa pampering herself or enjoy drinks with her favorite gals.
  • A day with you: You know what mom’s love – a day spent with their children. As we grow old, we tend to spend less and less time with our parents. They don’t necessarily complain, but every once in a while, spending time just with them without any distractions can be a great Mother’s Day gift. Plan a day of working out together, cooking a great meal for her or simply take her out shopping.
  • Get her groceries delivered: This is one thing that not all mom’s love. It’s a weekly chore that can’t be ignored for obvious reasons. How giving her a break from this tedious task. Make use of technology and order her essentials from the store she likes using a grocery delivery service (Burpy). If she is new to the concept of online grocery shopping, we bet she would love the convenience of it.
  • Write her a note: We never see a handwritten note anymore. Write a meaningful letter to her about how special she is to you. You don’t need to be a prolific writer to do this, be honest and we are sure your mother would love it.

5 nutrition mistakes to avoid as a Mom

Parenting is not the easiest job in this world. As a parent, you are always struggling to keep up with expectations while juggling many roles. The situation is definitely more challenging for moms as they are constantly balancing work and family needs. The juggling act can be a cause of great stress and concern for women. In the midst of taking care of responsibilities, it’s easy to ignore nutrition. Here are some nutrition mistakes to avoid as a mom:

  • Not introducing them to the new foods: We all have certain household favorites when it comes to food. It’s not rare to hear someone hear no one eats plum in my house or we are a vegan household. By nature, your children’s eating preferences will be a reflection of your personal eating habits. While it’s good to stick with the favorites, you don’t want to make food decisions in the grocery store with a personal bias. You might not personally like a kale smoothie, but do not make that decision for your kids before giving it a try.
  • Dieting in front of your kids: We understand every mom’s personal nutrition struggle. As you age so does your body and you rely on good old dieting every now and then to get back into shape. However, a word of caution, it’s a scientific fact that kids imitate their parent’s eating habits. You do not want to starve yourself or make an unhealthy eating decision in front of impressionable kids.
  • You rely upon takeaway food: Convenience should never supersede nutrition especially when it comes to your children. Are you a household that’s excessively dependent on takeaway or frozen food. While they are not necessarily unhealthy extreme reliance on them isn’t a solution. Their habit as kids will largely impact their nutritional choices as adults.
  • Too many sugary and processed foods: Kids love sugar and we all can agree that a cookie is a great way to bribe them every now and then. However, you don’t want your kids to consume processed food too often. Don’t give in to their tantrums too often, these foods can be detrimental to their overall health and weight.
  • Entertaining food tantrums: Nobody wants their kids to not eat a meal. However, if your kid only wants to eat waffles with whipped cream every day, you should be a little concerned. We understand introducing them to new, especially healthy food is not easy but giving up too soon is not a great way to develop their relationship with food.
